Students juggling assignments, exams and future ambitions may find powerful inspiration in the story of Mr Humphrey Mogajane.

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) graduate recently completed the 2026 Comrades Marathon Up Run on 14 June 2026, finishing the demanding 86km journey from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in an impressive 10 hours and 12 minutes, a new personal best.

Mr Mogajane, who holds an Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing from TUT’s Ga-Rankuwa campus, is currently working as an Internal Audit Intern at Goldrush Group. While building his professional career, he continues to pursue an extraordinary passion: ultramarathon running.

This year’s Comrades Marathon was his third, and possibly his toughest. Running partially sighted, he faced steep climbs, intense heat and the mental fatigue that every Comrades athlete knows too well.

Yet he crossed the finish line with strength and resolve, demonstrating that determination can outweigh even significant physical challenges.

“Comrades teach you that limits only exist if you let them,” Mr Mogajane said after the race.

His message resonates beyond the road. The obstacles students face, demanding coursework, financial strain, self-doubt or personal circumstances, do not define the outcome. What matters most is the willingness to persist.

Mr Mogajane’s journey also reflects the discipline of balance. By day, he focuses on audits and professional development. In the early mornings and evenings, he trains both body and mind. His story is a reminder that success is rarely about perfect conditions; it is about consistency, resilience and showing up even when the path feels long and uncertain.

From the lecture halls of TUT to the hills of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Humphrey Mogajane has shown that vision extends far beyond physical sight. Dreams may appear distant, but with discipline, perseverance and courage, they are within reach.

For students navigating their own uphill journeys, his example is clear: today’s challenges are preparation for tomorrow’s achievements.

Keep studying. Keep pushing. Your finish line awaits.
