UNISA Radio, in partnership with the City of Tshwane, will host a Back-to-School Charity Drive Activation in Akasia on Friday, February 27, 2026, to support learners and families by accepting donations of school shoes and stationery.

The main activation will take place at the City of Tshwane’s Akasia Customer Care Centre from 10:00 to 15:00. The initiative is part of a broader effort to assist families facing financial challenges at the start of the academic year.

The day’s programme will begin earlier with a community walkabout at Wonderpark Shopping Centre at 08:00. Members of the public are encouraged to donate school shoes and stationery during the walkabout in support of learners in need. Wonderpark Mall management has pledged to contribute 25 self-care goodie bags for children as part of the initiative.

UNISA Radio will broadcast live from both venues throughout the day, providing updates and encouraging community participation. Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet the station’s media personalities, take photographs with their donations, and receive complimentary giveaways.

Organisers say the activation seeks to address the barriers many learners face due to a lack of essential school supplies. By collecting school shoes and stationery, the campaign aims to promote learners’ confidence, dignity and preparedness for the school year.

The initiative also aims to encourage a culture of giving within the community and to strengthen collaboration among media, local government, and residents. Through the partnership, UNISA Radio and the City of Tshwane hope to demonstrate how joint efforts can create meaningful social impact and contribute to community development through education-focused interventions.

Community members and organisations wishing to donate school shoes or stationery can contact Tumelo Makgoara at 067 497 3618 or Tumi Mphaga at 082 952 0232 for more information.
