Gauteng Legislature Communications Officer and former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Youth League Provincial Secretary in Gauteng, Philani Gazuzu Nduli, graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Wednesday, obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management.

The ceremony, held at the university’s Pretoria campus, marked Mr Nduli’s second academic qualification from the institution. Party supporters, students, fellow graduates and family members were in attendance.

Mr Nduli, who was among the first elected members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at TUT, said the graduation symbolised years of perseverance and discipline.

“Graduation is recognition of years of struggle, hardship, resilience, discipline and commitment,” he said, describing the pursuit of a qualification as a demanding journey that deserves acknowledgement.

He encouraged young people to prioritise education and reject narratives that discourage academic achievement, arguing that qualifications remain a critical tool for empowerment, particularly for black communities historically excluded from economic opportunities.

Referencing the views of Nobowa Mangaliso and former President Nelson Mandela, he said education remains a vehicle for liberation and social advancement.

Supporters who attended the ceremony said his achievement demonstrates that academic pursuits and public leadership can coexist, describing the milestone as a source of motivation for young people balancing studies with leadership and community responsibilities.

Mr Nduli said he intends to continue his studies by pursuing an Honours degree, followed by a Master’s and ultimately a PhD in Human Resources Management. He added that he hopes to contribute to South Africa’s leadership in future, whether at the municipal, provincial or national level.
