A student jazz band from the Chris Hani High School from the sprawling township of Khayelitsha has been selected to perform at the 18th Cape Town International Jazz Festival to be held on the 31 March to 2 April 2017 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Student Cities Summit delegates who are planning to extend their stay in Cape Town for the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, will have the opportunity to listen to this marvel youth band from a school designated as an “arts and culture focus” centre of development by the Western Cape Department of Education (WCED).
The youth band will play selected jazz compositions and will be joined by students participating in the CTIJF Music and Career Workshop, an annual charitable programme associated with the festival to identify and develop talent from disadvantaged communities in and around Cape Town.
As part of its mission to develop aspirant writers, Student Times in partnership with the South African Student Support Services Agency has offered bursaries to four trainee journalists to participate in the Arts and Photo Journalism Workshop to be hosted on 25 March 2017 to 1 April 2017 at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.
